You're Invited to a Information Session About Apprenticeship in Minneapolis
September 6th, 2019 From 11am-12pm Corcoran Neighborhood Organization 3451 Cedar Ave S. Minneapolis, MN 55407
WHAT IS AN APPRENTICE?
Apprenticeship is an earn-as-you-learn workforce training model. You’ll receive classroom instruction and on-the-job training to provide the industry-specific knowledge needed to perform highly skilled work. Apprentices earn a salary as they train and the process is structured to allow for a healthy, work-life balance. At the end of the apprenticeship you’ll have the skills and training required in a high-demand industry.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF APPRENTICESHIP?
As an apprentice, you will earn a good living while you master in-demand skills. You are actively employed and earning an income on day one as you train in your occupation by your employer. Your wages continue to grow as you master your training. Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you earn a nationally recognized credential in a highly skilled, in-demand occupation.
HOW LONG DOES AN APPRENTICESHIP LAST? Apprenticeship lengths vary by occupation and industry. The length is based upon the time required to master all aspects of the
occupation or trade you are learning in addition to completing the necessary classroom and safety instruction required.
AM I ABLE TO EARN AN HOURLY WAGE AND RECEIVE PAID EDUCATIONAL COSTS? As an apprentice, you are paid an hourly wage from day one of employment. Typically, compensation increases as you master
job-specific skills and classroom course completion.
WHO OFFERS APPRENTICESHIPS?
You can choose from more than 100 apprenticeship occupations today in construction, advanced manufacturing, agriculture, health care, information technology, transportation and utilities. Employers in these industries need workers who are highly skilled to remain competitive and may be looking to invest in someone like you. An apprenticeship provides you a path to learn the necessary skills while you earn wages.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS ARE NEEDED TO BECOME AN APPRENTICE? Generally, you would need a high school diploma or G.E.D. to be an apprentice applicant. Math, science and industrial or
technical courses are especially helpful in your role as an apprentice.
IF I'VE ALREADY GONE TO COLLEGE OR AM EMPLOYED IN A DIFFERENT CAREER, AM I ELIGIBLE TO BECOME AN APPRENTICE?
Yes, any Minnesota resident over the age of 18 who has a high school diploma or G.E.D. is eligible for an apprenticeship. Prior education or degrees are welcomed, but not required.
