Community Organizer Job Posting
The Community Organizer will increase participation by community members, build community leadership and capacity of residents to determine needs and solutions.

Primary Focus Areas:

Specific Tasks:

Projects, Programs & Events: Organize existing PPNA projects, programs and events and develop additional activities which address the needs and issues of the neighborhood. Responsible for organization, promotion, and volunteer and partner recruitment.

Outreach to Hispanic Community: Initiate contact and build relationships with Spanish-speaking residents and organizations. Work with community members to determine how best PPNA can meet these needs and interests. Translation of PPNA materials into Spanish and translation services at events to create a welcoming environment to all residents.

Committee Support: Provide staff support to PPNA committees by staffing meetings, assisting committees with recruiting new members, and planning, execution and promotion of committee events and programs.

Community Outreach: Promote PPNA with residents, businesses, schools, partners and organizations to enhance visibility. Conduct a door-knocking campaign to all households in the Powderhorn Park neighborhood.

Volunteer Support: Recruit members of the community to volunteer at PPNA events and projects. Provide a rewarding experience to increase repeat volunteer participation.

Organizational Image & Public Relations: Represent PPNA through print, electronic and social media to enhance visibility.

Required Qualifications
PPNA is seeking a qualified candidate to join our neighborhood team. The ideal applicant will be a self-starter, organized, have strong interpersonal skills and enjoy working with a diverse community.

Required Qualifications:
– 3+ years – paid or volunteer experience with community development, community organizing, grassroots activism, volunteer management and/or membership organizations
– Fluent in Spanish (written/spoken)
– 2+ years – experience with non-profit project management
– Excellent personal accountability, self-motivation and follow through skills
– Proven track record of organizing and motiving people to accomplish mutually agreed upon goals

Preferred Qualifications:
– Experience with social media
– Grant writing
– Strong computer skills and administrative organization
– Experience organizing large public events

Additional Information
The position is full time (40 hours a week). The Community Organizer will work up to 2-3 evenings per week and about two Saturdays per month.

Benefits: PPNA provides medical and dental coverage to full time staff and a 3% employer match for a Simple IRA plan. Additional benefits include 10 days paid vacation, 5 days paid sick and 9 paid holidays.
